Appearance
The back is light yellowish brown to dark brown, the belly has a light colour. Back and belly are marked by an orange brown dividingline. Sturdy mouse, a pointed nose, large protrudingears, long tail, big black eyes. Adult mouse7.4 to 10.7 cm physical length; tail 7.3 to 11.5 cm long.

Development
A female wood mouse gives birth to 2 to 4 litters a year; size of the nest is 3 to 7 young; the maximum age is 1 year.

Way of living
The wood mouse is an excellent digger and climber. Because of their long hind legs they are excellent jumpers: 60 to 65 cm high and 40 to 80 cm far. Food: green parts of plants, nuts, seeds, insects, worms et cetera. They have a preference for the fringes of the wood with denseundergrowth, open places in the woods with bushes, also in adjoining gardens with trees and bushes. Anest with 2 or 3 entrances and a storage room which is sometimes 1 metre deep.

Damage
Florist’s businesses: gnawing damage to the buds of flowers (dahlias, carnations, gerbera daisies, roses). Arable farming and horticulture: damage to beetseeds. Sometimes gnawing consumption nuts and dried fruit. Smell pollution (looks like a gamey smell).

Prevention
Remove tall grass, trim bushes higher (prevent a junk corner). Ventilation openings up to a maximum of 0.5 cm wide, use fine wire gauze. Mendopeningsin exterior walls, put strips under the doors. Prevent as much as possible the supply of food.
